weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

My favorite way to spend a weekend is at home with my kids. I love to spark their creativity and do something spontaneous! Thanks for this chance, I LOVE the idea of the book :)
Well, for me there are two scenarios:
1. It's raining: Sat: I have a wonderful breakfast, read the whole morning while still in bed, have a shower, begin a nice sewing project, go the the cinema at 7 p and then go out for dinner with my husband to eat sushi. Sun: the same
2. The sun is shining: easy, spend the two days at the beach.
Favorite weekend activities include breakfast of waffles, scrambled eggs and bacon with a cup of coffee, working in the yard, farmer's market, spending time with family and friends, working out and getting a jamba juice afterwards :-)
Uninterrupted time to craft or garden, depending on the season. I cannot wait to own this book! (Not that I assume I'll win your drawing, but if I don't, I'll be putting it on my wishlist. Birthday's coming up in May.)
I love going on a hike, grilling out and ending the day with some fun crafts!
A favorite weekend is good coffee, family, friends, and food. And if I'm lucky, a little treasure hunting at the thrift store ;)
Really beautiful book. Some weekend sewing sounds just about right.
i'd wake up early so the weekend will last as long as it possibly can.. then go for a morning run to the nearest market to pick up some eggs n fresh cream.. whip up some pancakes for the fam.. after brunch, i'd sit down with a cuppa and write antiquated letters to faraway friends then spend the rest of the afternoon baking sugary excess in my favorite place in the house - the kitchen :)
My favorite weekend involves making a big breakfast with my honey, going to the farmer's market, hiking, sitting in the sun, and working on a project.
My fave way to spend my weekends are relaxing in the mountains of WV. The weather is (almost) always perfect - whether snowy or springy - and the scenery is so beauitful and inspiring!
Seeing as summer is approaching, I would LOVE to spend the weekend on a hike with my sweetheart hubby, and then a nice relaxing picnic lunch in the middle of an isolated field.
Sleeping late, a trip to the farmers market, a long walk through the city in the warm sun, a little bit of window shopping, stopping for ice cream on the way home, some sewing, some baking, a nice dinner out, and watching a few old movies at home.
I just like to lie in the sunshine...
p.s. The book is beautiful; well done!
Sleeping in, sewing, knitting, gardening, and thrifting. A girl can dream right?
My favorite weekend activities include sleeping in, cuddling with my girls, and finishing a project.
I love having a slow morning drinking coffee and talking with the family.
Just having time to work on everything that can't be tackled during the week, plus time to read, work on something creative, be with fun people, catch up on sleep, take pictures, and spend lots of time outside. :)
Jake and I usually both have some project to work on and on Saturdays we love to let the kids help out. Right now Jake is building us a bed and I'm working on a quilt. Jackson is great with a circular saw...ok, not really, but he loves helping sweep up the saw dust! Sunday afternoons in the summer involve laying on a blanket in the park with some coloring books.
My favorite way to spend the weekend is roaming around Jekyll Island (coast of GA) with my family!!!
Being outdoors with those that I love doing absolutely anything. :-)
