weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

Outside in the sunshine...if it's raining or cold books, movies, popcorn, games. AND help with the laundry!

Dreaming about all the beautiful projects in Heather Ross's book that could keep me busy every weekend. :) I like to crochet, sew and bake. My latest projects have been the adorable lady bug, kitty and bibs out of Amy Butler's cute book Little Stitches for Little Ones. I made them for my niece, Madeline, who will be here in June.

I am just learning to sew - so I can use all the help I can get.
Looks like this book will be a great inspiration.

Thanks!

Spending time with my husband and children, cooking up a delicious dinner from the farmer's market, a trip to the playground, some naps, some knitting, little to no laundry.

I'm so excited about this book, and about finding your blog a month or so ago. I made a polka-dot cake like yours, with white chocolate frosting, and I must say I was the belle of the ball. So a perfect weekend includes running, baking for loved ones and then a little sewing project. Do I get the book yet? Ha! Thanks for such a beautiful blog!

While it's only Tuesday, I had one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend day today. I biked down to the park and ate lunch while the river rolled by. I'm sure that it will still get cold again, and maybe even snow before Winter is done with us, but today was the best kind of gift.

Oh...this is truly a great giveaway. I have had this bookmarked on Amazon for a while now. I love to sew but never have time for patterns that are too complicated so these patterns look like I could do them in a weekend...just like the title of the book suggests. I am officially in love. My favorite weekend activity for me is to sleep, watch movies, and go get treats at my local bakery. Because I am in school and so so busy this is all I find time to do but oh how I love the ritual with my sisters. Please enter me into the giveaway! I am crossing my fingers and wishing myself luck. Who knows today is the day of luck I could win right? Thanks again...

I am saving up my pennies to get this book--wouldn't it just be lovely if I won it and could get started on my weekend project even sooner!

I am saving my pennies for this lovely book--wouldn't it just be swell if I won it and could get started on my weekend projects that much sooner!

-- A big breakfast (eggs, waffles, fruit, yogurt) with very sticky kids followed by some winter beach time and pockets filled with leftover waffles!

Favorite way to spend the weekend.... would have to be working in the garden in the cooler part of the morning - I love the smell of the warm earth and the quiet signs of life. Then a midafternoon read in the hammock with some brewed iced tea. Then a campfire along the river towards evening with friends and all our kids, roasting potatoes and carrots and fresh fish in dill and butter in packets of foil and eating them while they are still steaming, trying not to burn our fingers. Watching the stars come out and carrying tousled little heads up to bed, tired and happy. That's my favorite.

I love doing things with my boys on the weekends. I love when all of them are home from school and my husband is home from work and we can just be together. But it's also nice if I can squeeze in some time just for me too. A nap makes the weekend perfect!
Thanks!

I would have this book on my night stand so that I can read it shortly before going to sleep and then dream about new ideas to sew or craft. Beautiful cover, I just love it. Great giveaway, thank you!

My favorite weekend involves a huge elaborate breakfast, a walk outside, accomplishing something concrete, and snuggling up for a movie or games with the kiddos and husband. Hopefully I get a chance to make something somewhere in there. Or if not, a chance to read. Mostly, an ideal weekend involves not doing boring stuff like going to the drycleaners and Costco. Yet somehow we end up going to Costco on the weekends anyway. Guess they're not all ideal. :) Rad book! May it make its future home in my house.

Recipe for a dream weekend:

1 picnic basket full of delectable goodness
1 freshly launderd quilt
2 kites
3 pairs of flip flops
3/4 of a day of perfect weather (more if desired)
1 family
add as many good picture books as needed

Add the first 5 ingredients to the last two, mix gently, and simmer in the sun of La Jolla Shores.

I would have to ay that my favorite weekend activity is a date with my husband! If the whole family is happy though, any weekend is a good weekend!

Oh my gosh. I'm so excited about this book I don't know what to say. I'd love to win a copy. I'm going to make the HECK out of that breezy summer tunic shirt.
