weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

Any day is full and wonderful as long as I have some kind of project, be it knitting, sewing or a good book. A good cup of coffee and my wonderful husband make for a truly relaxing experience. I love time spent with friends, sharing stories!

My best kind of weekend involves sleeping late, good food, time spent outdoors, and friends to hang out with. Doesn't get much better than that, for me :)
Oh, and time to do some sewing or knitting is also good!
Thanks for the chance to win this book :)

Knitting, reading, napping, snacking. Then perhaps movie watching. All in no particular order. Having someone prepare and bring me the snacks would just be greedy. But I'd love that, too.

My perfect weekend would include a hike followed by a soak in a hot tub one day, and a rainy day of crafting the next. Also some good food, drink and company, and a miraculously clean apartment!

I guess I might be getting in just in time for this giveaway... I love your blog and I have been really wanting this book. Maybe I will win.

I love to spend my weekend sewing when my parents keep my little girl. My husband does the housework and lets me sew and create all day. I love those weekends. I also love the weekends when I have my little peanut and we all go to the park. Good times.

My favorite weekend activities include going to garage sales (to find unique fabric), working in the garden and yard, and playing with my children.

I love the outdoors..especially March in Phoenix...65/70 degrees, light breeze, picnic in the park, reading children's books to my boys, cloud watching, snuggling my hubby, laughing.
In the evening I would love to craft while watching a movie (my last project was a felt pillow invention of my own inspired be circles).

Well, I have two kids and a husband and only because we are always together I can say that a favorite weekend has them all out of the house and me quilting, uninterrupted.
The book looks awesome!
I've been following your blog for a bit and I must tell you that one of my favorite posts of yours was the one on the different patterns on the security envelopes. It's something I never noticed before and now find myself saving them. :-) Joan

How fun! My favorite way to spend a weekend is sewing quilts and spending time with my family. Who can ask for more?

My favorite way to spend the weekend is with my husband doing something simple and cheap. We make a game out of finding original things to do as free as possible. Last weekend we went to Crescent Beach here in Florida, drove onto the beach, parked the car, set out some lawn chairs and watched the space shuttle take off.

My typical weekend involves catching up with my husband after a busy work week, walking to the park with our son, and hopefully a little bit of sewing!

Well I think I have just missed the deadline but I love the book so I guess I'll just have to order it!

Just thought I'd drop a line to see if you get to comment number 640! Wow! See you this summer!!???
Oh, and on the weekends I love to sit in the grass on a blanket with my girl and watch my boys play ball. Peace on earth!
