weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

My favorite weekend involves homemade food, friends, waking up to sunlight and reading in bed, a walk under trees, wiggling my toes and striped socks or airy skirts.

Oh, what a sweet giveaway. Our weekends are full of fun with our two young boys. We're paitiently waiting for spring so we can get outside more! In the meantime, I am trying to teach myself to sew! The book looks awesome.

My favorite weekend is Friday night dinner with friends after work. That is followed by a seventy degree Saturday adventure with my boyfriend. We love to spend those days riding up into the mountains on his '67 Triumph motorcycle. We both love to travel, explore, and adventures so this is a fairly inexpensive way to do it very often. It's also a great stress relief - both of our jobs are very trying (him at a courthouse and me at a hospital). These days are usually spontaneous, with no planned route. We stop at small town diners, explore caves, have road side picnics, check out local art and shops in mountain towns and sometimes meet up with friends. We are both vintage camera junkies, so all of this is usually documented, which adds to the fun. We usually end the day with watching the sunset at our favorite lookout point on top of a mountain. These days are when I feel the most free.
On Sundays, we go to church in the city, which is always followed by eating at Willy's with our friends. After that, we work on our art together. Sometimes we make books, screen print or edit photos from the day before and sometimes we just read or study. If it's another nice day, then we might just sit outside and picnic.
All this writing about it is making me even more anxious for spring!!

favorite weekend activities... so much to do in the south of france!

walking among the stalls during market day... admiring the provençale fabrics, the countless types of breads and cheeses... buying farm-fresh vegetables... potatoes with a faint dusting of dirt, just-washed carrots for snacking.

picnicking near the river...

a lazy day in the sun... maybe knitting, maybe reading a book... possibly dozing...

drinking a cheap wine while watching the sun go down beyond the hill... with my husband...

walking in the forest... giggling... speaking bad french to each other... picking leaves... taking pictures...

ooh I hope I win but I've a lot of competition! Anyway, my favorite way to spend the weekend is with no plans, but plenty of opportunity for adventure!

My favorite thing to do during the weekend is take a long walk or run through Woodward Park, go to out favorite French Bakery for breakfast, and cruise some kitchen stores.

My favorite way to spend the weekend is outside, playing in the grass, riding bikes, then cooking on the barbeque in the backyard as the sun goes down.
After dark -- live music while the kids sleep happily with my mom watching them!
The book looks great - hope I get it!
peace

Playing Ultimate Frisbee and then hanging with my husband the rest of the day.

My favorite way to spend the weekend is to go to a forest or nature preserve that still hasn't any trails cut into it and explore + this one of my boyfriend's favorite things to do, too! After the walk/hike, I then like to veg out in front of the TV with my latest knitting/cross-stitch/felt applique project that I have a hankering to work on!

doing a craft, going out to eat or grilling dinner, doing something outside with family.

fav way to spend a weekend...with our three kids, outdoors if the weather is cooperating. if inside we are usually making something out of felt or paper or even working on those dreaded chores together...generally avoiding the crowds, it is our time to connect with each other after a busy week of school, scouts, sports...etc.

the book's projects look so do-able....I love sewing books where I can visualize making what's in the illustrations and photos. beautifully done!!

How lovely, thank you for the opportunity! That book looks fantastic! My favorite way to spend the weekend is with my husband and my daughter...it truly doesn't matter the activity - but we do love to go for a stroll in our nearby park.

here's hoping I win it! I have as good a chance as anyone right?

I love a spring weekend that's still chilly enough at night to have a campfire . . . there's nothing like sticky fingered kids!

my favorite weekends are the really ordinary ones: a bit of this, a bit of that, sleeping in with the kids on saturday morning, laundry, a movie, my husband cooking on saturday night, ordinary-every-day-bliss.

My favorite way to spend the weekend is spending time with friends and family - getting out of the house and moving around.

03.17.2009 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

I like a Saturday morning filled with work in the house and yard so once evening rolls around everything is clean and crisp, we're all tired but satisfied and happy about the work we got done during the day. Fix a yummy dinner and relax. Perfect.

If I won this bee-yoo-tee-ful book, I would give it to my sister-in-law because she loves to sew and makes all kinds of pretty and creative things. But she has 5 kids and probably doesn't even know this book exists yet. :)

I saw this book at Borders on Sunday-love it! On a budget, so I could buy it, darn it.

My favorite weekend is a sunny day, a cup of coffee from Pete's, and watching my son's Little League game with my daughter and husband.
