weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

I love to have a leisurely cup of coffee and with Miss M, take the watering cans to the vegie patch and water the vegie seedlings, play with the dogs and watch Mr B cook up a storm in the kitchen. No one makes scrambled eggs like he does :)

Having at least some time to myself to sew or garden - and hitting up the local farmer's markets!

Love to spend the days working in the yard. The never-ending chores like weeding and mowing and moving and picking up and watering and tending.

I love to spend the weekend relaxing with my family. No rushing around to make appointments or clubs or whatever, just us chilling out and having fun together. I'm a big fan of your blog and of the work you did with MSKids (how I miss that mag!)

My favorite way to spend a weekend is to just do things with our little family of four. So often we are busy with lots of other people. Having time to be just us is so nice!

I love to spend the weekend at home in my garden pottering and then in the evening go out for dinner and drinks with friends :)

Listening to silence. Going for a walk with my baby. Baking a cake. Making an assessment of the past week with my husband on Sunday night while eating left-overs. Making dreams for the week ahead.

Naps with the kids!

My favorite way to spend my weekend is all about family and friends. I don't care what I do as long as I do it with loved ones! In fact, this past weekend, we spent all day Saturday with some friends who just moved back to this coast from the west coast. Such a blessing! I also did some stamping and card-making - creativity - another important part of the weekends.

Waking up late. Having a nice hot cup of coffee. Playing at the park with my kids. Having BBQ with family and friends. Sewing when kiddos are napping. Walking around the farmers market. Baking. I heart weekends.

Wow! The chances slim every minute. S'okay. I'll still take a go.

Favorite weekend? Sleeping late, wandering the farmer's market with my kids, an afternoon yardsaling with my mom, some time alone to write and read and wander, meals in the garden, a movie with the man. Busy weekend. It's a lot of work to relax

You make a fabulous cover girl! My favorite ways to spend a weekend are; going to garage sales with my husband on Saturday morning, and working on different craft or cooking projects.

I love having great downtime with my family. Whether it is a trip to the beach, playing outside or having a great home cooked meal. I love seeing time invested into our family.

My favorite way to spend a weekend, which, of course, starts Friday after work, is to meander to a quaint restaurant where my husband will meet me. We'll eat a delicious meal, quite slowly, immersed in deep conversation and catching up with each other on the occurrences of the week prior. I'll wake up early the next morning to do yoga before my husband wakes and later surprise him with a hearty meal of eggs, sunny side up, grilled sausage, toast and homemade jelly and a tall glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. We'll eat breakfast in bed. The rest of the weekend will consist of a variety of activities including perusing flea markets, tending our garden, knitting a scarf (I'm still learning), toying with the sewing machine (of course!) and preparing the evening meal together with my husband. We love to cook together. Now, if we only had a weekend to ourselves!

Wowsers! I'm so impressed with all the comments. My favorite way to spend a weekend is on the beach. I love to sleep on the beach, play on the beach, search for shells on the beach, draw on the beach, bbq on the beach, run on the beach, dodge waves on the beach. You get the idea. Oh yeah, catch rays on the beach, feel the breeze on the beach...I like doing all these things on the beach with my family. (I can easily read weekend sewing on the beach of course...)

A weekend with no plans, spent with my honies: making and sharing delicious foods together, and making a few wishes come true if only to see one of those lovely smiles on my sons' face. ~H
