weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

We like to get done all those projects that we started with out enough time during the week
My favorite way to spend the weekend is with my husband and son and no obligations (and preferably a clean house) so we can play and craft and just enjoy each other.
My favorite way to spend the weekend is with a pile of fabric and a pile of movies. Sometimes my hubs and kids are fun to hang out with too. :)
Congrats on the book & thank you for putting on this contest! Here's my favorite way to spend a weekend:
Wake early…morning run on levee…shower…shop flea markets…french quarter stroll taking pics…a piece of candy from southern candymakers…take notes on all things that inspire me artistically…visit with friends & family…attempt to paint what I took photos of the day before…try a new recipe...plan ahead for the week & my life...relax…relax…and enjoy!
Spending every possible moment with the loves of my life.
An ideal weekend involves the luxury of concieving the ideal weekend, something we don't often get to do in our usual rush & routines. It definitely involves homemade blueberry pancakes, a kite, a datenight out underneath a starry sky and very, very little else.
My very favorite weekend activity is eating breakfast! Since we began dating 3 years ago, my boyfriend would always get up on Saturdays and Sundays and make a tasty, big, not-so-healthy breakfast. Such a nice change of pass from me always cooking!
Sleep late - create - read - nap - cook a fabulous meal - red in befd late - sleep - repeat all the next day, but the cook a fboulous meal part goes like this: cook a fabulous meal for my hub and kids who I have now missed and are just returning flushed with happiness from their fun weekend sans ME.
Craft days with "the syndicate" (my crafty group of friends). Lots of conversation and laughter!
My weekend would start with breakfast at our favourite coffee shop and then a walk down by the river to watch the swans and ducks swim by.
Dinner at home and then a movie.
my favorite weekend activity: playing with worms in the gutter with my son, or blowing bubbles in the grass, or jumping on the trampoline, or running in the "sprinkles" (we can do that right now in AZ), or making a scrumptious lunch to eat on the back porch, or...
anything magical, really.
Doing something creative that can be finished within the weekend, so that I have a sense of satisfaction when I see the finished product. That can be anything from baking, cooking, knitting, scrapbooking, or sewing. Top it off with a lovely walk with my retriever and husband and a meal with family and I'm more than content.
i just got my copy in the mail today and i love looking at it, i have yet to read because the photos are amazing. i know my sister would love this book, so this comment is for her.
the cover photo is awesome.
Gather my two girls and my love and head to the beach. Stay all day, returning salty and tired...early to bed...so that I can get up very early the next morning to wander (solo) the Rose Bowl Flea Market. ahhh...someday perhaps.
Ooo... That looks too fun. What a great book!
In no particular order: Farmer's Market; Big homemade breakfast - maybe banana pancakes or a Dutch Baby or popovers, bacon, fruit, green tea (always); beach walk/lake walk/rain walk with kids and dogs and mud and snacks; lots of music; lots of reading - quietly to ourselves/out loud to everyone!; maybe a feature film in bed with popcorn; big messy homestyle homemade dinner with friends and kids and wine and chocolate; ah and I mustn't forget - good sleeeeep!
My favorite way to spend a weekend is at the beach with my family. It's one place that we ALL love.
Kids, beach the sand and the water watching them run and squeal and splash, whilst I relax against a nice shady tree. mmm pleasure
"My favorite way to spend the weekend is making coloured big magic soap bubbles with my little sister in the park" (Matilde from Italy, 5 years)
I love to relax with my family. Have a nice breakfast with fresh fruit salad and maybe homemade bread. Then potter around the house getting all sorts of things done. Sit outside for tea. Start new sewing projects - sometimes with my daughters.
