weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

I am going to be a first time grandmother this summer.... I cannot wait!!!! I am making a baby quilt using Anna Maria Horner fabric from the Amy Butler Little Things book. I love all the books that are being produced today. My favorite way to spend a day over the weekend is planning and creating for my future grandbaby!

ahhhh... weekends are a rare gift in our household. Usually we try to spend them as a family (me, my husband, our 5 month old and our 2 dogs)- we got hiking in the mornings, spend the day at the park reading, long afternoons cooking or sewing when i get that rare "spare" time, but mostly- we just spend them giggling and trying to smother our little girl with lots of kisses and zerberts.

My favourite way to spend the weekend is in Hyde Park just by the Serpentine Gallery, meeting friends for a picnic on a big quilt laid out under a tree. Cake may be involved.

Oooh, i had a lovely weekend last weekend..... My hubby got up and made the kids pancakes while i went off for an hour long massage....I got an afternoon sleep.....and my lovely hubby cooked dinner too. Sunday we spent the day playing outside (another Afternoon sleep, i am pregnant with number 5!) and fish and chips and Dvd night to finish!
With kids under 6, this is as relaxing as they come!

A great weekend always involves lots of laughing with my husband and two children - Ursula and Charlie - throwh in some skiing in the winter, biking in the summer, making dinner together, a couple of cocktials, a little bit of crafting. A great weekend never involves fighting between Ursula and Charlie - but we are still working on that one...

I like to take my time enjoying my tea, a good book and some sunshine. Then I move on to sewing, knitting, or tinkering in the garden. Maybe some baking or cooking, too! Or a stroll through the farmers' market. And never having to hurry, that is the key!

Sewing and reading are what I like to do on weekends. I'm currently working on some rag dolls and hope this upcoming weekend will allow some time to progress on them.

Some good morning housecleaning, a walk, a good book, a thoughtful conversation, a visit to someone I love, ice cream.

Waking up leisurely and not to an alarm. Having a naughty breakfast with my husband of bacon, eggs and toast. Visiting my sister and her family. Buying food and doing any bits and bobs in town. Going to church and feeling uplifted for the week ahead.

I am so so excited about this book. I just purchased my very first sewing machine, and haven't yet decided on what is going to be my first project.

Anyway, some of my best weekends are spent going home to spend time with my mom. We bake together, watch TV together, and she teaches me how to cook family recipes. Since I am a college student living in a dorm with a cramped kitchen, being able to cook and bake are such luxuries. Those things are all made better by the time spent with my mom and the short break from a busy school week.

Thank you for offering the giveaway! :)

my fav thing to do is hang out with my kids and the dog in the yard while taking some random photos.

Some baking, some reading, some gardening, some crafting, a bit of chatting on the phone . . . and basically anything besides going to work!

My favorite weekend would include sun-dappled children, walks in the park, yummy food, and my husband's smiles. What we were doing wouldn't matter so much, it's more just having happy moments together.

wow! look at all of these comments! my favorite way to spend the weekend would involve sun (and surf, if possible) two little boys and one big one and nothing to do but be together, making it up as we go.

My favorite WE activities : sewing (of course), playing with the kiddos, running, napping and having a decadent 5 o'clock.
