weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

We love to spend family time together. If it can't be outside we take our son to the library or a nearby museum. There is some definite time of napping and reading when our son is napping too!
Sleeping in until 8am, hanging out with my husband, taking our dog for a walk, napping in the hammock, making a nice dinner and sharing a glass of wine. I love weekends. Whay are they so darned short?
winter: flannel sheets, warm tea, yummy book
spring: farmer's market, fresh-cut flowers, bike ride, walking home from yoga
after i get my hands on weekend sewing:

My favorite way to spend the weekend would be ...my kids are home, i'm cooking, i'm creating something!
On a lovely bike ride with my husband and 3 kids, stopping at the local donut shop and continuing on to the nearest park for hours.
The weekend is the only time I ever have the chance to read the day away, and it's such a treat!
waking up early on saturday morning to go for a run on gw parkway then stopping to get my favorite breakfastt bagel sandwich (egg, cheese, bacon) at the georgetown bagelry with some cold oj, enjoying every bite while looking out the window onto m street....oh a weekend that i would long to have again! your blog is great and this giveaway will come in very handy....to whoever may win....oh please be me!:)
my ideal weekend is spent sleeping in with my sweet puppy and walking the block to starbucks to grab my morning fix. the rest of the days would be spent soaking up sun some way or another, or getting lost in a good book and catching up with friends. weekends are definitely detox time!
My favorite way to spend the weekend is engaged in some creative endeavor. Be it paper crafting, painting, decorating, etc, these pursuits bring me the most satisfaction and a sense of time well spent.
The perfect inspiration for this newbie sewer! The perfect weekend is filled with lots of sunshine, lattes and talking stories with friends.

This is perfect timing on the book... I just decided it's time I learn to sew. Project one is and Easter dress for Scouter. Wish me luck. and send me one of those book!!! :)
(Your legs look great in the picture! Have you been working out?!)
I'm fond of figuring out the logistics of a new quilt, doodling on Photoshop, grabbing a slice of pizza down the street and walking the long way home... But these comments have given me some great ideas...
My favorite weekend consists of hanging around the house with my husband and kids, making pancakes, playing in the yard, watching a family movie while having a pizza night in front of the fireplace, tucking my kids into bed, and finally checking on them while they are sleeping and feeling like I am the luckiest person on earth!
Oops. Didn't read the instructions.
Okay, so an ideal weekend. Settlers with the girls. Lazy warm days at the park with the fam. Dinner at Patois. Snowboarding at Vail: spring conditions.
Or really, anything except for camping with the Relief Society.
And now I've entered twice. Am I a cheater?
Perfect Weekend: a walk with the family, read a good book, work on my latest craft project, work in the garden, try a new recipe, and squeeze a decent nap somewhere in the mix.
I love the process of creating. I love to scrapbook and sew. I love to work on a project all weekend them bring it to work with me on Monday to show it off. I love when someone compliments my daughter's dress and I get to say, "I made it!" I love that no one else has one. I love one of a kind!
Start weekend with baked goods, a pot of tea and the paper. End it with a good book, tucked in bed. In between, hope the weather is good for taking walks and sending the kids out to play in the trees.
my favorite way to spend a weekend is to slow down and just play. it can really be anything, just not the busyness of during-the-week-life. the book looks fabulous!
My favorite way to spend a weekend...a perfect balance of kids, baking, and knitting!! In the summer we love to picnic at the beach - a 45 minutes drive to Lake Michigan. It's great to dig my toes into the sand and watch my kids play in the water. : )
my weekend consists of the SIX WONDERFUL BOYS in my life! well actually one is my man...and then five boys... needless to say, family and relationship are most important in my life following the relationship with the ONE who gave us these blessings!
after a homemade breakfast, i usually spend Sat. morning on a date with one of my boys, which alternates every week, while my sweet hubby has time with the other four...then we spend the day together with nothing planned... Sat night church. Sun morning another homemade breakfast in our pjs.
creatively:
i LOVE to sew handmade baby gifts for new moms in our church...which there have already been five this month!! busy, busy, busy.
but i LOVE it! family & relationship give our lives purpose. live it to the fullest!
