weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

An ideal way to spend my weekend would be baking cookies, taking a long walk with my husband, and knitting until I could knit no more. A nap would be welcome also!

our favorite way to spend a rainy weekend (like this past sunday) building forts in the living room with my four year old while waiting for the cookies to finish baking in the oven. maybe a crossword puzzle, or a good book, some playground time, thrifting, farmer's market, slow cooking and a movie...that would be the perfect weekend!

i just had the perfect weekend... started off by making a gift for my brother and his fiancee to wear at their elopement / wedding. followed up with a date with a new boy. ended with breakfast at a cafe with said new boy :) a very good weekend.

I love weekends because I am with my daughter all day long! We do fun things like going to the boardwalk, to the beach, to the park, etc. AND I get to craft! If she is taking a nap I craft alone, if not she sits on the floor next to me and at one point she climbs on my lap and "help" with the sewing, cutting, etc.
Thank you for your generosity, I know there are tons of entries but I hope to win! :)

I love heather ross's fabrics - just used the new mermaids on my picture frames - will be up on my etsy shop soon - wish I were a better sewer - maybe this book will inspire me to work at it more.

Favorite activity is to pile the kids in bed with a stack of library books and read away the morning (and sometimes afternoon).

My favorite way is getting up early in the morning to hit up garage sales and the farmer's market, then having a casual lunch out with DH, relaxing and crafting in the afternoon, then seeing a movie at night.

...dang, now I wish it was summertime so I could do that! :-D

The best weekends for me begin with Friday nights. My husband and I curl up in our den with a fire going as far into spring as possible, watching a movie and sharing a cup of ice cream. Saturday I run for miles(training for marathon) then help my husband in our yard. With spring comes new flowers, trees, tending to the apple and pear trees in our backyard! Saturday evening, we have friends over for dinner on the patio with wine and music. Thats my favorite weekend.

My favorite weekend activity is taking a walk to the park with my 1-year-old, then settling in with a good book or sewing while he naps in the afternoon.

Favorite way to spend a weekend -- sleeping in, exercising, hanging out with friends, eating some lovely meals that I haven't cooked, hanging out with my family. Sounds good! Thanks for the chance to win!

A weekend treasuring my baby girl, Audrey, and crafting/sewing new things for her is a weekend in heaven for me.

Sleeping in, A DYI home improvement project, out for pizza, and a long long walk with the family.

A perfect weekend - Time to knit and sew (with friends), people watching and brunch on a downtown patio (with knitting), a good book. Perhaps a meander through the gallery or a day-trip to one of the little towns nearby...but the important components are something creative, something yummy and friends.

Our favorite way to spend a weekend would be a day of geocaching and then a night of sitting in the backyard at my in-laws having a hot dog and marshmallow roast. Then a lazy Sunday after church just watching some movies and taking a nap.

Although cleaning is how I spend most of my weekends, my favorite thing to do is a picnic with my husband and dogs (our babies) and then a nice walk for all of us.
