weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

My favorite way to spend the weekend is when I ride my bike towing one of my daughters, while my husband tows the other and we ride into town. We always stop at the farmers market and then the park, finishing off the morning by having lunch at the local deli before riding home for the girls' naps. It is still winter here in Michigan, we are counting the days until we can get the bikes out!!!

Thanks for the great giveaway! My favorite way to spend a weekend is to try and accomplish a variety of things...a little bit of exercise, be it skiing, hiking or yoga...a little bit of creativity, sometimes taking photos, sometimes designing something or learning to sew (which is my current goal I have just started)....with a bit of reading and a lot of love and laughter to top it off. Perfection!

My favorite way to spend the weekend is with family and/or friends. . . eating good food, window shopping, being crafty, and simply having a joyful time.

Favorite weekend activity - spending time with my girls, husband and two dogs. Acitivities outside are best, but we have just as much fun on inside on cold/rainy days .

My favorite way to spend a weekend is a lazy homemade breakfast with my husband and son and then a few hours of creating in my craft room.

I love to spend the weekend surrounded with a quilt, a good book and my kids playing around me. I love the noise, the drama, the competition and the peace my family brings me

I love relaxing on the weekends with my husband. We read, make brunch and watch Property Ladder for a while. Then.. if the weather's nice.. we take a trip to the farmers market or do anything as long as it's outside. If it's rainy or cold out.. I like to snuggle up and watch movies :)

Weekends mean spending the day with my husband who I don't get to see during the week. Usually involves trips to the dog park and to our favorite french cafe for lunch.

A trip to the farmer's market, a playdate with friends, and a hike in the woods to get out of the city. Perfect weekend.

My favorite weekend activities are: sewing, thinking about sewing, reading blogs about sewing, eating some good food, maybe some gardening or thrifting, and definitely some tortoise watching.

My favorite weekend is to make pad thai and watch a redbox movie with the husband Friday night, sleep in until the baby wakes up for good around 11 in the morning, go to an art museum, go to Color Me Mine, get a late lunch somewhere with good, dark hot chocolate, fall asleep reading a good book, wake up, go to church, have friends over for dinner, play games, have some sort of fruit dessert, and fall asleep reading again.

my favorite thing to do on the weekend is spend time with family and to actually stop creating for work- but for fun. on weekends i TRY to work on only my projects for the house- or those for gifts. this is when i find myself able to see the world clearer and the beauty around me more- and what better way then with family.

My husband has a wonky schedule so, often, we have our "weekends" in the middle of the week. In the summer, we love to take our little guy to the "beach", which is a little man-made pond (as close as we can get to the beach in NW Iowa) not too far away. He loves to try to catch little minnows and it's always so fun to watch him explore. I can't wait for it to get nice!!
