weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

My favorites are: stay a while in bed with my morning coffee, writing daybook, play all together with husband and little one, and then: sewing until night! thank you for the offer.

My favorite is to go to the park or beach with the family, order in one meal and cook a big Sunday dinner, and spend at least a few hours reading!

I love to spend time leisurely grocery shopping, starting small sewing projects, reading a good book, and cooking with my husband.

my favorite thing to do on the weekends has always been to go to the flea markets, I used to do this year round growing up in San Diego and now can only go from Mid-April through Oct. due to actual seasons in New England. Oh well! That book looks great and inspiring!
Thanks,

Every weekend should include a nap! Especially when the sun is shinning in on you! Makes my eyes tired just thinking about it!
A nap, a little sewing, and little scrapbooking, a little computer time, a little walk, a little nap, a little reading, and maybe another nap!

Perfect!

We take the baby to the park, go to farmers get ingredients for dinner, make a homemade dinner. Go for walks and try to spend as much time outdoors.

Sleeping in. Being outside with the kids. Reading for fun. Eating good food. Enjoying time with friends. Singing. That's a good weekend.

My favorite weekends entail sleeping in on Saturday, waking to kidlets playing happily together (quietly) in another room, and then an easy day in which we get a few things done (like eating in an ice cream shop, candy store), family movie nights, sewing, a lot of giggling and smiles.

I love this book! I looked at it yesterday at Barnes & Noble and am simply drooling. Favorite weekend plans include making brunch with the honey on Saturday and getting in a bike ride on our cruisers... and sometimes having friends over for fondue!

My favorite way to spend the weekend? Saturday - Breakfast with the family, play time outside, a leisurely nap and dinner and a movie at home. Sunday - coffee over the newspaper, lunch out, another nap, and projects around the house. We have an 11 month old, so there isn't much sleeping in around here unless the grandparents are visiting. Love your blog!

My favorite way to spend a weekend is to try to decompress from the week before and gear up for the week ahead. Most often it involves family time: a nice sit down dinner and a rousing game of Scrabble aferwards. And then a little me time: reading, knitting, sewing, crafting-- a chance for me to refresh myself. A perfect weekend involves more time spent in bed in the morning and homemade pancakes!

A great weekend, is a nice mix of family time, like movie night or a big breakfast and time with friends.

A good weekend for us usually consists of one busy day and one family day. I don't have little kids at home any more so visiting the grand kids is a weekly pleasure. They are still babies and so sweet and fun.
The rest of the weekend depends on the time of year and the weather. Cooler days I spend more time on house projects, crafting and blogging. Warm weather is outside! Too much to do and see to stay in the house.
There's usually a movie or two involved, dinner with friends one evening or a weekend car trip to the "country" or up to DC.

As a college student, I love to spend the weekend not doing my homework! I'd much rather hang out with my friends, watch a movie, take a walk around campus, and read a good book.

So many comments...how wonderful! My favorite weekend activities? Waffles for breakfast, a walk in the woods (complete with puddle jumping), snuggling up to read, craft a little too...Thanks for the opportunity! The book looks wonderful!!
