weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

swimming, beaching or hiking...something outdoors and fun to do with my little girl and too-busy husband...also some good food for fuel!

This weekend my favorite is tapping trees! Our neighbors graciously let my family drill holes in their maples and tromp over several times a day to check the buckets .... only to produce about a gallon of syrup in the end, but how cool is it to make your own???

I love to spend the weekend on the couch reading. I finished five books this weekend so far!

My favorite way to spend the weekend would be to stay in, pajamas on, a few good movies, and my husband and kids around me on the couch. This is in my dreams of course, but if I had to choose a favorite way to relax on the weekend, this would be it!

Oh that book looks lovely. I love to spend winter weekends knitting, but now that spring is almost here I hope to get a little more outdoor time!

My favorite way to spend the weekend is to mix in a bunch of things like a hike in the woods, a good movie, maybe some sort of creative project, quality time with the family, a good meal.

This is such a great giveaway. I have been following Heather's blog book tour and loving everything I have seen so far! I am currently spending the weekend doing my favorite thing: decorating and painting my (new) home! I love rearranging and tweaking rooms until they are perfect...and then trying them a whole new way a few months later! Next weekend I will do my next favorite thing...gardening!

Thanks for a great giveaway!

Beautiful! I'm still learning to sew so this seems like it would be a perfect addition to my library.
We love slow weekends, the kids' soccer games, stay home if the weather is rainy, go out if it's sunny (and tolerable!), some reading time, board games, and photos.

My ideal weekend is sewing the days and nights away...however it doesn't happen as often as I would like! :) Great giveaway!

My favorite way to spend a weekend is outside with my family. Jumping rope, riding bikes, etc. Finishing the day with a great movie and a big breakfast sunday morning!!

My favorite way to spend weekends lately is teaching my eight year old how to craft. We've worked on some simple sewing projects, started to learn to knit and are together learning needle punch embroidery. Nothing gives me more joy than seeing her learn to love the things that bring me so much happiness.

Weekends not only are for catching up on grading (I'm a teacher at a local community college) it's also for my most favorite part? Spending time with my husband, a lunch out, and while he naps my sewing machine is humming. A classic movie from Netflix will top off the day ("Mostly Martha" is my current fav).

We won't talk about the ways I sometimes spend the time: pulling weeds, cycling laundry between two machines, washing the car, sighing over all the grading to be done, or surfing the web. Oh, no. We are all about purpose and memories. Of course.

My favorite way to spend the weekend has been taking my 3 children every Saturday morning on a hike up the hills by our house. Our routine is to have a yummy waffle or pancake breakfast. Pack some snacks/drinks and head out by 10 AM. An adult can complete this hike round trip in less than an hour. My 3 children and I spend about 4 hours! It takes us 2 hours to walk on this trail because we stop to explore various parts of the trail, watch for animals along the way, say hello to other hikers, and just stop to "rest." We then end up at a neighboring playground along the way... so some play time is a must. After an hour of playing, we head back... another hour or so later... and we are home! So, then Sunday is spent cuddling on the couch and reading books... lots and lots of books! And then heading to the farmer's market -- yummy fruits and vegetables galore! Maybe some sewing is in store for a weekend WHEN we win this book! ;) Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share my weekend with you and the opportunity to win this awesome book!

So my favorite way to spend the weekend or my typical weekend? *lol* Typical weekend is usually some cleaning and lots of coffee and npr and playing with the kids, and hopefully fitting some art project or sewing in there somewhere. Which is pretty good actually, minus the time spent cleaning.

Favorite though? No chores, just hanging leisurely over coffee and something yummy with the hubby and kids in the morning. Sunshine and the park and maybe a thrift store with the family in the afternoon and a dinner with the family and some friends, lots of laughter included. Not too far off from the typical, hopefully most of time :)

The book looks great! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!

ps enjoying the blog too :)
