weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

checking out the local farmers market/art festival, a yummy dinner, a good movie, and good friends!
this afternoon, i am knitting, tea is nearby and internet breaks here and there... nice :)
my favorite thing to do over the weekend - curl up on the couch with some hot tea and crackers and read a book or take a nap (I'm off to take a nap right now!)
I love spending the weekend reading a good novel, having late and long brunches with my husband and toddler, going to church, and taking a Sunday evening walk before the week starts up again. Ironically, I actually tend to do most of my sewing on the weeknights so that I can do more with my family on the weekend, but nonetheless-as a budding seamstress-this book needs to get in my hands!
I love spending my weekends at home with my family with nothing much to do. It seems like there is always stuff that need to get done.So it's just nice to all be home together just hanging out.
My favorite weekends include nice weather, and hanging out outside, and eating meals outside. I am ready for spring!
my weekend bliss: saturday morning staying in my pajamas as long as i can, a trip out to pick up some pretty papers and craft supplies, baking banana bread, finishing a piece of artwork, sunday breakfast out with my husband, a yoga class, back into my PJ's for an early sunday bed time.
The perfect weekend is lots of happy time spent with my husband and 2 year old, followed by a bit of down time for myself to do some sewing or anything else that involves being creative. Bliss!
A long 7 mile walk around Lake of the Isles and Lake Calhoun (I live in Minneapolis), read a chapter or two of a good book, make something new for dinner and take a nap. I don't usually get to all of that in one weekend (especially the nap)- but it's my personal long-term goal to make that happen at least once this summer.
my favorite way to spend a weekend is exploring a city that is new to me. usually i've got a camera & guide book in hand. of course, that's before i became a mother. i should say spending the weekend with my baby daughter, but i still love exploring new cities. that won't change.
I love to spend my weekend time doing some knitting, maybe some reading for myself, reading to the kids, some gardening and, ideally, a work out in there somewhere! Not to mention hot coffee and some bacon...and a little time to catch up with the sweet hubby.
What an adorable little book! I've been hunting for a sewing machine because I have all these little projects I'm inspired to create. This book would give me that much more inspiration!
My favorite way to spend the weekend is with the three boys in my life -- my husband, 2 year old son and dog. Whatever we're doing, as long as I'm with them, I'm good.
(Although a day to myself where I can sit in the sun, read a book, knit and craft is great too!)
I love going on a picnic with my husband and baby boy. I also like rollerblading, reading or watching any reality tv marathon.
I'd love to have this book - it looks fantastic! My favorite way to spend a weekend is at my Grama's cottage on Lake Erie - it makes my heart sing.
Relaxing, taking time to bake and sew, then getting ready for the week of school ahead. It'd be great to have a new book of projects to work through!
wow. that looks like a wonderful book. i'd love to try some of those projects. thanks for allowing me to be in your giveaway.
My ideal Saturday would include a pancake breakfast, a walk through Central Park, picking up a treat on the way home, and ending with baby boy going to bed early and ordering in for dinner and a movie with my husband - no blackberry allowed.
My favorite thing to do on the weekends is hang out with my boyfriend and watch movies. He is in grad school during the week so he is never home. So on the weekends its nice to be able to cuddle up and spend some quality time with him.
I adore her illustrations too! My list of favorites on the weekends is a long one - just as long as there is leisure time and my family involved, it's always a good one.
My favorite weekend would include beautiful weather,! On Saturday, a bike ride with the family and dinner on the back patio with friends. On Sunday, worship with my church family and an afternoon nap on the couch. The sewing would happen in the little snippets of time I can sneak away while the hubby and kids are playing together.
