weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

My favorite way to spend the weekend is checking off a bunch of things on my "To-Do" list and then spending a nice relaxing guilt free evening with my family.
My favorite weekend: Sleeping in late, cooking french toast and hot tea, making funny sounds to the tiny baby growing in my belly, and then creating plans for all the sewing of outfits and quilts I'll be making for her.
My favorite weekend is any weekend we can wrangle the entire family to do everything together. That's not small feat: My husband works almost every weekend and my four kids have countless games, parties, activities... But if we can spend a Saturday, ALL together, even if it's just a Costco run, I'm a happy clam. There's something so perfect about all six of us piled in the car, louder than a den of hyenas, cruising to Costco.
Oh - Wowee! pick me! I'm just in love with this book!
since i am dreaming of warmer weather, a perfect weekend would be a camping trip with my little family in the desert. and we would make it home in time for me to be able to get some sewing done and then i would be ready for another week!
love your blog, and i would l-o-v-e this book!
I love getting a few things done around the house--somehow, there are always more pictures to be hung and more flowers to plant--and just relaxing with my husband and kids.
Making pizza in the brick oven my husband built in our tiny backyard.
outside when all my neighbors and our kids are out - we play, order food and have cocktails capped off with firepit smores. we have a fabulous lil street.
My favorite way to spend a weekend is to get together with friends and have a "project party" where we all work on our separate projects - but together. So much more fun than suffering alone.
I love to spend my weekends exploring San Francisco, or working on DIY projects. A weekend devoted only to sewing would be dreamy, too.
Favorite weekends: long dinners with my man and some friends, walks through the Brooklyn Flea and window shopping, one home project to feel productive, a matinee movie at BAM and cooking on Sundays.
Waking up slowly, eating breakfast in the sunshine and heading to a farmer's or craft market. Of course, with kids in tow too.
long breakfast with tanzanian coffee. taking pictures. dreaming of how to sew. napping with my little 4 month old and his daddy. lovely dinner.
my favorite way to spend a weekend is just lounging around with my kids watching movies, during the cold days anyway. I love going out to the park when it's nice out!
I have been wanting to get myself a copy of this book. Pick me, pick me ...
Oh, how I've been wanting this book! What a great giveaway!!!
My perfect weekend would be actaully having TIME to do a little sewing on a warm sunny day with the windows open and a lemonade at my side!
I can't wait to see this book!
Looking forward to doing some sewing with this book!
I love to spend the weekend sewing, but usually I spend most of it shopping, cleaning and washing clothes. I also go to church on Sunday!
Have a Blessed Day,
Diane
Late morning tea, paper, knitting. Dinner with my favorite boy. Who needs anything else?
this book looks amazing.
i would have to say that i would love to spend my weekend sleeping in (which is impossible with three 3 kiddos, the youngest being nine weeks old ;), going for coffee, laying around reading and watching movies.
hey, a girl can dream, right?!
