weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

We're a half-German household so Saturdays are Cleaning Days. Once the house is all sparkly, we love to have guests to dinner so they think our house is always tidy! On Sundays it's church and then a nap for baby and dad and quiet free time for me. Bliss!
It hasn't happened in a while, but my favorite way to spend a weekend is to have NO plans of places to have to be, and just time together as our little family of three, and a clean house. :) Then we could be more spontaneous, go thrifting, have a picnic, take naps, whatever.
This week I saw this at Sam's Club (of all places) and thought it looked lovely. But then I thought I'm not good at sewing, but now that I know you're involved I think I'll get it just for the design aspect.
oops...I forgot about the contest part. Our favorite things to do on the weekend is ANYTHING outside. Minnesota's winters are so long and cold that anytime we can get outside we do.
My favorite weekends are the ones where I get my housework done on Thursdays and Fridays and then my husband, daughter, and I can just relax and take it as it comes. I can go for a run in the morning, do a little cooking for the week ahead and spend my evenings sewing and knitting. And of course, since my perfect weekend is a nice mild summer day, we make a trip to the farmer's market where we get fried egg and cheese sandwiches!
Thanks for doing the giveaway! I love reading your blog!
My favorite way to spend a weekend is in my pajamas.
I'm in grad school so weekends are reserved for putzing, playing with the puppy, procrastinating research and going on a little date with my fiancee. He usually has shirts & pillows with holes, so maybe a lil' bit of darning slipped in with our arm-in-arm walks ;)
Oh, and Saturday swims when it's warm enough!

A sleep-in, and a cup of coffee in bed, cuddles with the four kids, a walk to Salamanca Market, with a stop at the bakery on the way for chocolate croissants, lounge around at the Market, then a stop on the way back home at the playground; arrive home to watch a movie/play/sew/knit/web surf until dinner time, then roll into bed when the sun goes down. Maybe a babysitter the next day and a movie and lunch, just him and I. That's a pretty perfect weekend around here.
I love to spend my weekends with family and friends. I have to squeeze in some time with some sewing and a good book.
Spend time with my husband! If the weather is nice, get out and about in Boston. I love eating out on Saturday morning or baking something special at home. Weekends are my time to catch up on reading, projects, or just lazing about playing video games together. :) email is olyglotpay at gmail dot com
Fave weekend is any weekend that involves brunch and my husband not having to work so he can share some of the kid duties :)
The book looks gorgeous! A great weekend = brunch at Rosewater on Union in Park Slope, a walk around Prospect Park while the sun shines down, dinner and a movie at home snuggled up on the couch. Keeping my fingers crossed for the book!
Favorite way to spend the weekend is brunch!
Can't go wrong with kicking back to a few witty episodes of Gilmore Girls on a Friday night! Saturdays are perfect for a little meditation and creativity. Whether it be writing, designing, painting or editing pictures, the weekend is enjoyable. Then, an exotic trip to The India Palace for Chicken Coconut Korma and Sweet Naan is a must! The palace inspires you to travel the world!
favorite way to spend the weekend: at the beach with my family!
(i cannot wait for warm weather to arrive again!)
on cold weekends, i like to stay at home & work on crafts with the kids (we painted all day today!).
A little coffee, a newspaper, some walking amongst trees or on a beach, a bit of sewing if I'm lucky, and a meal with friends makes a great weekend for me.
Favorite way to spend a weekend? Relaxing and reading a good book! If it's a new book, won in a great giveaway, all the better!
Congrats on the cover shot! I'm looking forward to sewing up a couple of these projects...have the unicorn and princess fabrics ordered!

I like to take a walk with the kids at the lake. I always try to do something creative, whether sewing or knitting. And my favorite thing to do on the weekend... take a nap!
Spending time beneath our old oak trees with my children, husband, and dogs.
On my weekends I absolutely love to just sleep & cuddle with my boyfriend, bake goodies for everyone, watch movies, do something fun outdoors (weather permitting!), and sleep & cuddle some more.
::crosses fingers::
I'd love to try out a project or two during my spring break!
