weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

My favorite weekend needs rain & wind, which isn't hard to find in Washington. Add a fire in the fireplace, a great quilting project, a couple of good chick flicks, something good to eat and the phone not ringing!
This book looks so wonderful!
My favorite way to spend a weekend is to enjoy a little bit of everything, time with my family, time to myself, time to relax, and even some time for cleaning and straightening so that the house isn't in too bad of shape come Monday!
A perfect weekend would be... sleeping in (which NEVER happens with a baby), a sunny day at an antique show, dinner with friends and plenty of crafting!!!
or a last-minute weekend in Paris!!!
Thanks for the give away.
We spend our weekends working on an array of things. Sunday mornings are for the farmer's market and if it's the 3rd Sunday of the month--the antique swap meet, which is were hubby will be in the am. At the moment I am repainting a porch swing and trying to provisionally cast-on a bag pattern I received for Christmas. Hubby also takes the dogs and kids in tow and head's for the beach. I stay at home and do loads of laundry and get ready for another week of school and activities. (and I find some time to knit!)
art+craft+walks in nature.
My favourite way to spend a weekend is at a slowed pace with family, food, creating and rest. A nice glass of wine doesn't go astray either!
Oh! I am excited to get my hands on this book. Anyway, I love to spend the weekend doing little things with my family
Weekends are for family. My two young girls get lots of mama and daddy time. We take walks, ride bikes, see a movies, watch our baby chicks. My favorite time is creating with my oldest daughter. She is only 4, but craves to create and wants to use my sewing machine so much that she begs for her own. I have taught her to embroider on burlap, weave pot holders on simple looms, etc. She pretends to knit with sticks found in the backyard. I look forward to passing on creative traditions to my daughters and weekends someday will be spent in a little sewing circle consisting of my own family!
A perfect weekend for me is doing my favorite things (sewing, baking, gardening); taking them at my own pace, without deadline or stress!
This is a wonderful book - can't wait to see more!
Our favorite way to spend our weekend with our boys is packing a picnic lunch, taking the train to go to the National Zoo (D.C) early in the morning to see all the animals wake-up to eat their breakfast and greet us.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
My favorite way to spend the weekend is home, crafting, with plenty of time to take the dog for long hikes in the state park.
I love sleeping in, going to the farmer's market, reading for pleasure, and knitting.
SO pretty! I love to start my weekend with a slow cup of coffee and reading at my favorite cafe. Then, hiking, some sewing or knitting, more reading, maybe some time with friends. Thanks for the chance to win!
oh my! a weekend is a favorite thing, no doubt, but one spent with the sun shining, the pups happy and playing, the grill filled with seasonal veggies, the hands busy crafting or gardening, the family knit together joyful and blessed: that is my favorite way to spend a weekend. xoxxxx
My favorite way to spend a weekend is just lazing about, knitting a little, gardening a little, cooking a little, hanging out with my kids a little. Today I'm going to be shopping a little and finishing our new walnut mantel a little. : )
what a cool looking book, with really inspiring ideas! my favorite way to spend a weekend is waking up early on saturday and spending time making breakfast and reading before everyone wakes up, then spending the evenings cuddled on the couch with my soon-to-be husband. :)
I love the leisurely breakfast with my family--hot coffee, pancakes or eggs and no big rush for the schedule.
I love the weekends when I am industrious enough to get the house clean by lunchtime so that I can relax for the rest of the day. Relax = reorganize something, play with the dogs in the backyard, cook dinner with my sweetie, go for a walk or a drive to do some exploring.
a busy day at the farmers market, a walk to a breakfast place, a little napping, a walk around the neighborhood or on the beach, some more napping, a swim, a movie while curled up on the couch and a batch of cookies in the oven...it would be even more perfect topped off with a thunderstorm during the movie time!
Oh my favourite way to spend the weekend involves losts of crafting, some reading, a few cups of coffee, one (and on a really luxurious weekend :two) naps, at least four cups of GOOD coffee, something home baked, at least one barbeque, a good walk for the dogs, a bike ride with hubby and the more good friends or family to share this all with, the better!
