weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

Oh, how I'd love to have this book in my hands! You did a beautiful job with the design. Favorite way to spend the weekend: sleeping in, easy comfort food, garage sale shopping, some sewing, and watching a dvd with my husband in the evening.

My favorite way to spend a weekend is to have absolutely NO PLANS at all. Cooking and baking, and sharing yummy meals with my family... getting a little crafty in a NICE, CLEAN scraproom (never happens)... and just taking it slow.

Unfortunately, most of my weekends are full of things that need to be done. ::sigh:: This "dreamy" weekend rarely happens in real life.

Since I live in Norway it is still snow & storms,, so a weekend will content skiing, crafting and good friends :)
In the summer our life is totally different. We are sooo (sarcastic laughter) lucky who lives close to the north pole. That book would've brighten the dark up here..

What a fantastic giveaway! My favourite weekends consist of spending time with my family we have little rituals that occur every week. Friday night coffee and cakes with the extended family at grandmothers house and eggs and mushrooms for breakfast on Saturday. The perfect weekend also includes some activities such as baking, sewing or reading and time playing with the kids.

Perfect weekend - browsing fabric stores for hours on end, dreaming up delicious things to make with the wonderful fabrics that keep catching my eye, then deciding on one or two and seeing what I can come up with. I guess the perfect weekend would actually involve a finished product to top it off too! :)

great legs brookie! Over the weekend I love spending time creating with my littles, either finger painting, upcycling milk cartons and cereal boxes or building forts in the backyard...

My favourite weekend includes reading the Saturday paper while enjoying a huge pot of tea, taking a nap with my husband on Sunday afternoon and staying in my p.j.s the whole time. Congrats on your book.

My favorite way to spend the weekends is with my family, it doesn't matter what we do. But, it is extra special when there is just a touch of me time thrown in with either sewing, reading, knitting, or running, just something to clear my head and get ready for the next week.

An early morning trip to the beach before the crowds, then some sewing/crafting while something yummy is baking in the oven! A perfect weekend day!

My favorite way to spend the weekend? Cooking and baking all morning (I start at 6), grabbing my husband (tenderly) and/or family and friends, head outdoors and share the fruit of my labor on a checkered old picnic rug, sun on our face, wind in our hair... then the look of pure delight on their faces... the best part!

Thank you so much for your inspirational blog and this wonderful give-away!

My favourite way to spend a weekend would include a family outing where we spend time outside and see some beautiful sights. Some time for my crafts, whether it be sewing or knitting or something new. And a little bit of computer time uninterrupted by little hands.

I just got a sewing machine for Christmas and have made a few small things. I would love some patterns and ideas from the book! My favorite thing to do on the weekends is be with my kids in a laid back setting. No homework, no cleaning, just us playing in the yard and loving each other.
