weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

weekends are rare treat for me, as i'm most often working and don't get to spend them with my children.
my ideal weekend begins the whispers of my children as they play together, their laughter pulls me from my bed and we dress quickly, trying to our best to disguise our bed-hair - dash down to our favourite cafe by the lake and feast on pancakes and syrup and cups of hot mocha. we while away the rest of the day at the beach, i snap pictures of my children's happy moments as they build sandcastles that are doomed to be taken by the sea - but oh, the enjoyment!
happy days.
Taking kids down to Provo to eat at a gourmet pizza shop and meeting up with my sister-in-law and nephew. Lots of relaxing and when the weather is nice, lots of walks.
My favorite way to spend the weekend is to go on a hike with my family and then come home and make a tasty meal- dessert included!
Our favorite highlight of the weekend is family snuggling in bed while watching a movie!
My favorite weekends have always been spent at the lake in Vermont. This year might be trickier because I'm obsessed with sewing, so I'll have to figure out how to work that in. I'll definitely be making some of the projects from Heather's book - they look like they'd be just perfect for my summer wardrobe!
Thanks for the giveaway!
oh i love spending the weekends with my hubby and the kids at the beach, or a picnic atthe park.. anything basking in the sun!
i would also love to sew on the weekend.. how about this to help me out!
Doing the things there never seems time for during the week- family walks, trying a new recipe, naps, and baking- always some baking!
My favorite way to spend a weekend is to get all of my chores done Saturday morning, and spend the rest of the weekend in my pj's knitting, sewing, reading and listening to NPR. In the summer I prefer to do these things outside.
I love a quiet weekend alone when all the kids and hubby are away. I get to lounge and read and work on projects without worrying about making meals, etc. Thanks for the chance to win!
I want this too much to have hope that I'll be chosen. I'm going to forget that I entered so I won't have to be sad if I don't win. :)

I like to spend it taking pictures or playing in my flowers when the weather is warm. In the fall, Saturdays are for OSU football. Lately, I've had way too much homework. And we've been busy getting our computer room ready to make into a nursery.
The book design is cute!
One of my favorite things to do on the weekends (besides sleep in a little later) is to fix a big breakfast for my family. They love it! Weekdays are so rushed in the mornings, we just don't have time to sit visit and read the paper together.
Would love to add weekend sewing to the agenda...! Thanks for the chance to win.
Um. I think my favorite way to spend a weekend would be sewing one of those cute shirts. :)
ps. your legs look great! We're glad you shaved also...
Actually, as of late, my weekends are the only time I could even do a sewing project. I've realized my que of projects was getting long so I've allowed myself to make one project each weekend. Yay. My Favorite way to spend a weekend. :)
My favorite way to spend a weekend is waking up semi-early on Saturday and going to our local Flea Market with my husband. Then a nice lunch and a day of sewing. Finish it out with a great home cooked meal and relaxing. Sunday would be a lazy day filled with FoodNetwork and HGTV, checking all my blogs, and more sewing. :)
Thanks for offering this giveaway!
This weekend in particular I'm making Christmas stocking (I know...it's March...I'm jumping ahead)
Wow. I never knew it took that long to publish a book. But it's certainly worth the wait when it looks that good!
The best weekends usually involve something outdoors, sun, and friends whether it's hiking or a BBQ or shopping at the local farmer's market. If it's winterish outdoors then snow, big mountains and warm fireplaces!
My favorite weekend would include a day of travel to a place that has a quilt/fabric shop and a great bookstore (and great restaurants, of course). Then the next day I would spend working on a new project and enjoying the day.
this looks like such a beautiful book!!! my perfect weekend includes reading, and crafting in front of a movie
Our favorite way to spend the weekend it taking out 15-month-old to the zoo, wild animal park, the park just having some quality family time.
