weekend sewing giveaway
Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!
The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.
When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.
Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.
Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)
You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.
And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

ways to spend the weekend!
flea market is definitely one of them!!!
i love to sew on the weekends! it's the best time because my husband is sweet enough to help with the kids so i can sew a sunday dress on saturday or catch up on quilting. this book looks so fun! i can't wait to read it!
My favorite way to spend the weekend is a morning walk with my husband and baby, a trip to the farmer's market, and an afternoon at the beach!
the very best weekend is spent with my children and husband, walking trails, playing games, camping in the living room, baking, sewing, going to church on sunday morning. if a picnic can be squeezed in somewhere, all the better!
Homemade wheat pancakes for breakfast, a little yardwork, followed by some lounge outside time, a little crafty/sewing time, and cuddly movie time with my husband at night. Church & visiting with family on Sunday.
a little skiing, a little crafting, a little cuddling, and lots of laughing.
I am a simple woman with simple tastes. I like to play rockband. I like to sew clothes to fit my hourglass figure. I like to lounge and sleep in. I like to do religious activities. I love to cook.
My IDEAL weekend? trudge to the craphole I call work with an effervescent *COUGH* FAKE *COUGH* smile on my face fri morn, go to the gym in attempt to make that hourglass figure smaller (hey...46-37-46 is still an hourglass...just a bigger one than most!), come home and make a delicious concoction in my kitchen for dinner or go to dinner with friends, hang out with my guy friends and play some rockband or be a videogame voyeur and watch THEM play something or sew a cute dress to wear on Sunday...Repeat on Saturday. Church bright and early on sunday. Make dinner for afforementioned friends. Nap. Play more rockband or just hang out in the evening. Try not to think about having to actually WORK for a living and be thankful I have a job. Look forward to Fri. =D
what a fun book!
on the weekends we usually get our grocery shopping and laundry done.. we try to sneak in some family fun time. most of my sewing/crafting/creating gets done on weekday afternoons or when everyone else goes to sleep at night. this weekend is our boy's 2nd birthday!
p.s. nice legs!
waking up early for a nice long ride or run. oatmeal or brunch with friends. a day hike in the afternoon. or catching up on projects while watching movie!
Oh my...this book looks so lovely and I have just learned how to sew!
Our family loves making forts in the back yard, taking discovery walks, cooking and washing the dog...pretty much whatever we can do together because the week days are so busy.
Wow - thanks for this great giveaway! My to-do list includes taking a sewing class next fall when Cal enters full day preK. My favorite way to spend a weekend is at home: cooking meals together and playing at the beach, as we live next to the ocean.
Dinner at a friend's house, walking the dog at the dog park with a bit of soccer practice with my little guys, crafting with my daughter and a cup of tea and time to talk with my husband.
Reading, taking walks with my husband and son, going to the shore, maybe a bit of knitting and/or sewing, some shopping.
snuggling in bed with my husband and daughter AND breakfast...I make eggs, My husband does pancakes or waffles and we all eat it with LOTS of syrup:)
My favorite way to spend my weekend would is with my husband and my son. Throw in a little sewing and some writing and I am a happy camper. Maybe a saturday afternoon nap with the three of us all on the kingsized bed!
my favorite weekend:
friday night: mac 'n' cheese and a cheesy video on the couch snuggling with my snugglebunny...
saturday: serious brunching, preferably involving huevos rancheros; then stocking up on seasonal yumminess at the farmer's market; then an afternoon of wandering around the neighborhood with no watch on; then maybe dinner out with friends...
sunday: cook a big pot of steel-cut oats for this morning and the coming week; then CRAFTERNOON with friends! (currently trying to finish my first quilt for my first niece!); and finally wind things down with a nice home-cooked meal using all the fun food we got the day before...
After a hectic week, I love spending my weekends with my 3 kids and husband. It's chaotic and noisy but it's very comforting at the same time.
I love to be with my family on the weekends, trips to the park with a picnic basket at had is always great.
My favorite way to spend the weekend is relaxing and/or adventuring with my husband, who is truly one of Peter Pan's lost boys. Now that it is getting warmer I'm looking forward to Saturday morning picnics in the kayak. ♥
my favorite way to spend a weekend lately involves sleeping in on saturday morning and waking up with enough time to make a good hearty breakfast... apple cinnamon pancakes and bacon.. the works! Reading and flipping through magazines... having time to talk a walk. I havent had a weekend that wasn't full of homework or wedding planning in a long time though..
oh and if there were time for shopping-- that would be nice too! :)
