weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

If I've got my fiancé, a movie, and a craft project....it's a good weekend.

first off, what a wonderful accomplishment! and thanks for sharing some of the details behind the "completed project." it makes it even more special.

a favorite way to spend a weekend: all of the "must dos" have been finished during the week, and whatever i do makes me or others smile.

I love spending time with my husband over the weekend. He has Friday and Saturday off, so Friday is usally date night! I always look forward to that! And Saturday we usually do projects around the house. Husband likes to do woodworking, I like sewing.

I love weekends that involve road trips and picnic baskets and sunshine and good music and good food and camp fires and lots of photos and laughs and book shops and thrift stores.

Oh, my favorite way to spend the weekend this time of year is cozied up with a warm cup of tea and a good book! :-)

Delightful book, so excited to see more!
As for my weekend, Friday night would be snuggled up in the bed with all three girls while daddy makes us hot chocolate and scones. Saturday, we head to the Bird Preserve and visit our fun feathered friends. Sunday it's off to church then a picnic in the park, kites, and tag! Baths that night, and 3 clean girls are off to bed dreaming of Rocks in Their Sox!

My favorite weekends are either spent outside with my family or hiding away in my studio, sewing away. But the best of all is in the summer when we're at the beach and I'm sewing at the huge dining room table while the kids play with Playmobil on the floor. only 3 more months and I can't wait.

I love a weekend full of newspaper reading while eating eggs. And then more reading while lounging around outside. Plus a big long walk and a whole bunch of time to draw and be creative (and maybe even attempt to use the sewing machine we got for our June wedding, that is mostly serving to scare me rather than inspire me). Oh and no grad school homework or cleaning the tub- that's for sure!

I like to do something industrious but not too hard in the morning--like cleaning up the cellar, or the garage--followed by a well-deserved nap and an evening of knitting in front of a good movie. Heaven.

If sunny and warm, I love to play outdoors with my four babes, crashing upon a soft blanket for a picnic lunch. If inclement, it's best to cuddle up under a cozy wrap and read an old favorite with a warm beverage.

My favorite weekends include snuggling with my fiance, wine and great conversation with my dearest friends, and leisurely Sundays mornings that end with a great brunch.

How cool! I would love to win this awesome book!

My favorite weekend is spent at the pool or the beach with my husband and three smallies! :D

I think my favorite weekend activity is attempting to cuddle in bed with the hubby and my little girls... Followed by a little knitting, a little sewing, and absolutely no laundry. Add in a trip to the beach and that would be just perfection.

I just like to be able to use my hands on the weekend. I read (& teach) for a living, so anything that gets the other side of my brain working is a welcome relief!

My favorite weekends are when my husband is home from work and the weather allows us to take our girls outside to play. Whether it's blueberry picking in the summer, a walk along the beach or a picnic at the park. I'm very anxious for summer to begin again!

Perfect weekend: time with my silly girls, time with my coffee (maybe this should be scheduled first), time on the screened porch with my handsome husband, time with a plate of delicious something (that I didn't make), time in my craft sanctum, time doing something to help someone, time worshiping God.

Go to craft store Friday night with the kids and let them pick out whatever craft project they want to make on the following Saturday morning....then watch them add to it and admire it the rest of the weekend.

I love to spend my weekends with my favorite people. So Saturday is all about catching up with my dearest friend and hanging out with her little ones. And Sunday is a mix of crafting, getting bagels with my fellow and some sort of excursion (museum, woods...who knows)
