when the tooth fairy forgets
My daughter Bee lost her first tooth this past week, which is about the most exciting thing to happen to a kindergartener EVER. She was so excited to finally get to use her tooth fairy bunny and carefully placed her tooth in the tiny pocket and happily went to bed. And do you know what happened? The tooth fairy didn't come! The second night came and Bee remembered to put her tooth under her pillow again and can you believe.. the tooth fairy forgot TWO nights in a row! So we decided to take some drastic measures.
We thought maybe some big signs might help the tooth fairy find its way to Bee's tooth. We decided maybe Bee has a different tooth fairy than her brother C and maybe this little fairy doesn't know her way around our house or where to find Bee's tooth (not every kid has a tooth fairy bunny pillow).
Thankfully it worked! And the tooth fairy finally did come and Bee was very happy to find a $1 bill in her bunny's tiny pocket.
We can't be the only people this has happened to.. what happens at your house when the tooth fairy forgets?

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who's forgotten to notify the toothfairy!
This just made me laugh. I guarantee this will happen at our house every time a tooth is lost... I have a memory like that.
No problem. We have found that the tooth fairy sometimes has enough teeth to make their jewelry and comes only when they need more teeth!!!
This is just perfect. Our tooth fairy is super confused sometimes!
sometimes the tooth fairy has too many visits and she can't make it until the next night, sometimes she is out for so long that she doesn't make it to our house until breakfast time.
Poor overworked fairy!
Our tooth fairy forgot once. We lucked out that time because my son lost a tooth the next day, too. We just said the tooth fairy probably knew the 2nd one was coming and didn't want to make two trips.
this year he (raton pérez, an import from an argentinian friend who lost her teeth first) had to come four times in a row to our house an yes, one day ha came late. after brushing their teeths they went to check again, and there it was. wow!
I distinctly remember as a kid my tooth fairy forgot to put on her glasses and left me pesos after a recent family trip to Mexico. I don't think my mom could really talk her way out of that one but she tried. We still get a laugh out of it.
Oh my goodness! This has happened to us. :) I was panicking and thinking of some elaborate explanation involving woodland creatures and nymphs and other fairies, and my husband just walked into her room and said "She had to go to the bank and it wasn't open yet. She ran out of money because there are so many kindergarteners in our neighborhood." And my daughter totally got that. My husband and I laughed about our different approaches for weeks. :)
We've also remembered but been stuck without coins or interesting money. I found a little (very easy) tutorial on Facebook that shows how to fold a dollar bill into a heart, and I did that once.
The tooth fairy forgot to come visit me once. I believe I was crying when I showed my mom. The solution? She stuffed my chubby, nearly newborn baby brother into my little sister's ballet tutu, taped a dress-up crown on his head and carried him into my room in a flying motion. She told me that the fairy was very busy and has asked my brother to cover for her but forgot that he was just a baby. I loved the resolution but never believed after that one, so use that sort of solution with caution.
We used to get a letter from the tooth fairy with our money saying how busy she'd been the previous night and hadn't managed to get to everyone that night. My Dad's working. He used to do awesome things when Santa came too, including sled marks in our front lawn and boot prints in the windowsill and my favourite (which at the grand old age of 24 i still own) a reindeer bell that rudolph lost in my garden.
our tooth fairy often comes at the end of her shift. She's tired and has to be quick (since everyone is awake and in the next room) and so she's been known to empty her pockets of any change she has left over from her night's work. Sometimes that adds up to a silly amount of coins and we get some concerned phone calls from friends regarding the going rate for the tooth fairy these days.
Once, the tooth fairy didn't make it till after breakfast. She left a lovely note apologising and saying how busy she'd been last night. When we got to school, there were TWO other kids in the class that had lost teeth that night...how serendipitous!
Our tooth fairy used to need to be reminded a few times -- and we would have to go to her website -- toothfairy.org or send her an e-mail.
At our house the child who loses a tooth writes a post-it note telling daddy the good news and it goes on the bathroom mirror. Good thing the tooth fairy sees that note while she/he is brushing teeth!
Otherwise the kids know the toothfairy has a three day window since she is often on the other side of the world.
how cute! i've never heard of a tooth fairy bunny pillow. adorable!
This is the most impossibly cute thing I have ever seen. Clearly creativity runs in the family! If only I had had a tooth fairy bunny pillow when I was little!
the toothfairy forgot in our house and left a beautifully colored IOU because she didn't have any gold $1 coins or $2 bills
All these stories had me cracking up! The one time the tooth fairy forgot to pick up my tooth she came the next night and left THREE dollars. I guess tooth fairies are getting more creative these days. :)
Such funny stories! And I love your daughter's sweet signs. Don't you love how trusting kids are.
Our tooth fairy seems to forget... a lot! It's the worst feeling! We usually act shocked (to mask our shame) and then go help them look...surely the tooth fairy wouldn't forget...and "find" the money hidden in the sheets. It helps that the tooth fairy at our house lets you keep your teeth.
