nesting

I'm over at Kirei Nest today, answering a few questions about wedding gifts, dishware and house guests. The photo above is from Martha's house in Maine and is the reason I collect only white dishes. She calls it "The Great Wall of China". (And it's even more impressive in person!)

'white only' is great for china, as it is easy to buy new to replace broken bits! There are plenty in this household of 4 boisterous kids!

I think that photo is in one of the MSL books I have (or was in the Magazine), I remember it well and remember wishing I had a kitchen big enough for such a collection of dinnerware. That and the counters.

As much as I love the big M, I could never do so much open shelving in my kitchen. Too much on display and I'd be paranoid about keeping them ALL clean from smudges and grease and dust and those little flies that no one ever sees but end up inside of light fixtures and empty bowls. The white is beautiful but my inner neurotic requires cupboards. I had a closet without doors once - it nearly resulted in insomnia....

I love white dishes too! I just bought a new Ikea set a couple months ago and it was so nice to have matching dishes. I had to get rid of everything else and then buy more! So pretty and simple simple.

Thanks for the kind words on the guest post. I'm not sure I've ever been called a "good cook"...at least by anyone over the age of 7. ;-)

Hi Brooke! I gasped when I saw this photo. Years ago, I saw this in MSL and it started my obsession with white dishes. I've been trying to find this photo/spread ever since, and seeing it today was so so fun. I posted on my blog, with a link back to your beautiful site. Oh, by the way, nice to meet you. I'm the health and fitness blogger for Glamour.com, a magazine writer, mom and I also keep a personal blog at www.sarahjio.com. xo, Sarah
