star cupcakes

C really wanted cupcakes, and I was having a hard time thinking how to make the cupcakes special, and still fit in with our rocket ship/outer space theme. I thought of making little paper stars, but didn't really want to cut them all out, or buy a special punch. Maybe I could use sugar cookies?

Before baking some of my star cookies, I pushed in a wooden skewer (mine were three different lengths so the stars wouldn't all be at the same height). It helps to add a tiny bit of dough over the top of the skewer before you bake it so it's really in there nice and tight.

They looked so festive, and I think they would be lovely for a Fourth of July celebration as well. I can't be the first one to think of this, right?

Five candles added to the first row of cupcakes makes for a very happy birthday boy.

I love these cupcakes and pretty much everything you do. I would like to re-post on my blog with credit back to you, of course. If that's not okay, just let me know. Great job! Love your blog.

Not only are the stick/star cookies the greatest idea ever, but I like that you made them simple by adding just white sprinkles on top! a delight! Thanks for the idea. One lucky kid you have there!

I'm making the star cookies for work tomorrow, and I am adapting it to my 4th of July cake for Saturday! You are talented and creative. This was a great idea!

Yes they would work nicely for a 4th of July Celebration, in fact I might just steal the idea in peanutbutter cookie form to add to my grandmother's peanutbutter banana cake birthday cake for her birthday ON the 4th of July! Thanks for the idea!!

Just found this today. We had a third birthday party on the 4th this year and also filled a cupcake request. I've always been torn between a red, white, and blue themed party in honor of the 4th and a regular themed party in honor of my son. The first year we did Angel Food cake with white frosting, strawberries and blueberries, etc. with flags and the whole nine yards. Then there was Elmo, who happens to be red, and this year Thomas the Train, who also fit in nicely with the red, white and blue decorations. Next year, though, I think I may get a little more creative and do something non-cartoon themed unless the boy has a serious problem with it.
I love your take on a 4th of July party. Fun, stylish, and easy on the eyes!

Eeek. Just double checked the post date and reread that last comment.
So, I guess I'm agreeing that it would make GREAT 4th of July decor, too!

Wow. What a great idea!! I'm helping throw a space themed baby shower and this will be perfect. I will see if I can get a moon-shaped cookie cutter also.
