color story #8

My little sister has outfitted my nephew's nursery with a vintage circus theme. (Circus? I know what you're thinking.. it could be crazy. But think vintage strong men billboards with beautiful type, not scary clowns and dancing elephants.)

I can't say I've ever used this combination of red/yellow/blue in any of my previous sewing, but the more I look at it, the more I am starting to love it. And some of these patterns might need to appear in Bee's summer wardrobe. I better get sewing!

Interesting combination. The first swatch reminds me of IKEA colors. :o)

Not colors I would naturally put together but I really like them :) sounds like a darling nursery (happy to hear there are no clowns).

I love the idea of the vintage circus theme. I bet it looks great. Summer is the time to be bold and bright, so a big thumbs up on the fabrics.

I love your little collection of fabrics. It's fun to break the rules by pulling together unexpected combinations of color/pattern. Summer is on us. Maybe you'll have time to sew tomorrow.

I like the top blue and yellow one and the tiny blue cirles. Very nice. And vintage circus sounds like something a little boy could really get into. Someone buy him a ringmaster's top hat for when he gets older!

Lovely! What is the little flower fabric, if I may ask? These combinations are so fresh and dynamic. Great for a kids room -- it will be so fun to look at!

I can really imagine the room just from this little colour story! Be sure to share Bee's summer wardrobe you make - I'm collecting sewing inspiration for my daughter. It's just coming into winter here so if I start now, I just might have something relatively decent in time for summer! hopefully...

I instantly love this scheme -- primary colours, but classy!

I love the vintage circus theme. Have you seen this repro-vintage circus mobile on ohdeedoh.com? The woman that made it was on The Martha Stewart Show recently. Would look so lovely with the fabrics you've chosen.

Oh, B! I am so excited to see this! I especially love the top middle one. Thank you so much for making this. I'm sure it will be beautiful. Will you show Carrie's, too? Or show me a picture of it?

I promise this circus thing is going to end up cooler than it sounds. And yes, clowns have been strictly forbidden. But maybe dancing bears... I have this dream of a corner with a little antique three legged stool, an old top hat and a lion taming whip leaning against the wall- if only I could somehow keep the whip out of little hands... I checked out the mobile- so cute! I've been working on making a circus tent to hang over the crib. I almost had to call Dad for the formulas to make a cone.

I just found your blog from purl bee, and I'm quite inspired! As a future book designer/ graphic design, I've always wondered how my sewing and craftiness can fit in. :) Also love your quilts and the illustrator mock-ups and all the order to the fabric scraps!
