when daddy's away

JR has been off on a hiking trip the past three days and the kids (and I) are eagerly awaiting his return this evening. My husband isn't gone very often (he takes maybe 2-3 business trips each year), but we've started sending photos back and forth from our phones when he is away. We make a sign (Bee and C let me know what they want to say) and I take a photo of the kids holding it from my phone.. when JR gets it, he takes a picture holding his sign and sends it back to us. The kids think this is amazing, Bee especially is fascinated with how daddy got inside the phone. But I always like seeing the photos JR sends back.. sitting in the middle of a serious corporate event with a big smile on his face, holding a hand drawn sign for his little ones.

That's adorable! And inspiring! My husband is going to be out of town this week and we're going to make one for him! Thanks for the idea!

I love this. I should start sending handmade sign picture notes to my loved ones too. Thank you for the lovely, smiley idea!

How cute! I would love to know if his associates think it's sweet and help him take the picture, or if they're too anal-retentive to appreciate the adorability.

This is so sweet, but it makes me a little sad since can't imagine my husband responding to this. Too many years and too many commuter train love notes gone unread. (Is that a faux pas to admit this in the world of blogs?) But yes, I agree, so inspiring to see how your family expresses its love so simply, and so perfectly.

What a beautiful idea. Make all those photos into a book so you can keep them forever.

i love this, brooke. and seriously, bee's little lips!
chip and the girls take pictures of the things they see and send back and forth to each other on the phone. when chip was in CA shooting the commercial on the ranch he sent them a picture of his feet next to cow hooves. the girls were amazed. and wondering what daddy was doing at the zoo... i love watching good dads and their kids play.
