weekend sewing giveaway

Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross is finally here in my hands. I've been waiting patiently to see it. I actually laughed out loud when this cover was chosen because that is ME balancing up in that tree. I never intended to be the cover model, it's just easiest to use whomever is around when you are off in Vermont on a photo shoot, it's a good thing I shaved my legs that morning!

The back of the cover shows some of the projects in the book, a great mix of clothes, bags, aprons, cute ideas for kids, and even a pup tent to relax in when you're all done with sewing. All the projects in the book are easy enough to finish in a weekend.

When you take the jacket off the book you can see one of Heather's patterns from her Kokka line "Rabbits and Race Cars". We thought it was a nice little surprise.

Heather actually illustrated all of the how-to's in the book, I love her drawing style. To see more of the photos in this book, visit the photo gallery.

Each book also includes two huge pull out pattern sheets for the projects in the book. (And believe me, it was tricky to fit all those projects on there!)

You may not realize that book publishing is a long, slow process. The photo shoots for this book were shot way back in the summer of 2007, and Heather was working on the actual patterns and projects a long time prior to the actual shooting. The photos are then edited, and the manuscript finished and edited. I designed the book last year, between February and July, sending it back and forth with Melanie Falick and her team. So almost a year later it's been printed, bound, shipped, and finally is here in my hands.

And I'm happy to pass it along to you. Leave a comment letting us know your favorite way to spend a weekend, and my little helpers and I will pick a winner Tuesday evening, March 17th. (Comments will close at 8 PM Tuesday PST.. Wow! That's a LOT of comments!)

That book looks amazing!
My favorite way to spend a weekend is to find a park in the city that is relatively quiet and to read until it gets dark and a picnic lunch/dinner of bread and cheese. I could do that everyday in fact.

I love to do grocery shopping on the weekends because Papa can come along and disctract the baby if she's not beiing too cooperative. Of course just lazing around in some park is also nice!

Weekends are special. You can sleep in and have a long morning reading, go on a two hour hike, take a nap, then fit in some hand sewing or knitting while watching a Saturday night movie. Then Sunday presents you another day filled with possibilities.

Well, sleeping in on Saturday, nice breakfast with fresh squeezed OJ, talking a walk with hubby and the dog, time to do some sewing/knitting, a nap and then a quiet dinner whenever. Sunday it's church and spending time with friends and family. Sweet, sweet!

Sleeping in, the Farmer's Market in summer, movies, special treats, and simple time with my husband and daughter.

Congratulations - and though I haven't seen the book yet, I know I can say - job well done!

My favorite way to spend a weekend is to sleep late with my little one, and crafting late at night after he's gone to bed.

Working on a quilting project and snuggling with my hubby and little boy.

The book looks beautiful! From a former editor, I know how much work that would take! It's fantastic!

Thank you for a chance at this great book! I love being outside on the weekends. In the city, I pick cafes. In the country, I pick wilderness. Oh how I pine for warmer days.... and the shot at this book! :)

I love to spend weekends with my family, but truthfully, I am just glad to have a little help with my kiddos. Maybe being able to do something just for me, that's my favorite!

a late lazy wake-up thanks to my sweet husband who's up early with the kids... a family trip to the coffee shop for a small breakfast... playground fun, camera in hand... lunch at a favorite Mexican joint... maybe an afternoon nap (wishful thinking!)... some knitting on the front porch while watching the kids play in the yard... a pizza dinner picnic on our family room floor... family movie night... end the day all snuggled up in mom and dad's bed... bliss!

mmm...weekends are for family, friends, or a mixture of both! laughter and tears mixed with glimpses of the stars and soaking in the sun. mmmm, good.

Reading and napping on the bench in the middle of my vegetable garden. Can't wait for some warmer weather!

I love when I can steal a few hours away from the family on a Saturday morning to go thrifting and hit a few garage sales. Then maybe meet up with a friend for some tea. And...if I'm a really lucky gal, I'll have some time in the evening to work on various sewing or knitting projects. Yes. This is my dream weekend. :)

My favorite way to spend my weekends is with my family. I don't get a ton of time to spend with my husband and daughter (all together) during the week so... the weekends are for us!

Fave weekend? Walk to park, picnic, kites, big blankets...and naps afterward.
