mister rogers

The past few weeks I have introduced my four year old son to Mister Rogers. He gets to watch one show while his sister Bee has her nap each afternoon (thank you DVR). I was nervous to introduce them. I thought C might find Mister Rogers boring, or that it would seem outdated after all these years.
But C loves it.. he's been singing about "a snappy new day" and asking me all sorts of questions about graham crackers and paper chains and batteries. And wondering why Mister Rogers is always changing his shoes. The other day he said this little jewel (which promptly went into the quote jar):

We love Mister Rogers!
kids don't know about "boring" or "outdated." it is parents who label it such.
mister rogers was a SAINT!
that is hilarious!! we just created our funny jar 2 days ago when i found your blog. first one:
"i really want mine with sugar!" "yeah, & i really need to sleep sometimes with my head where my feet go."
second one:
"dad, we can go...outside & paint. & then, we can go play....& then, we can go wash the paint off the plants...& then..."
thank you for the funny jar. we wouldn't have remembered them ever again.
Hmmm, Mister Rogers... haven't thought about him in a long time - I used to love his show and I bet my boys would, too! Good idea!
and what a fabulous title for a show, or a piece of art: "let's be together today"
Do you know that the "real" reason Mr. Rogers changed his shoes was because in order to cross the set quickly to do the voices of the puppets, he had to run. They discovered that they could hear his loafers on the sound track when he ran so he would change into sneakers before leaving the house set and going to the other sets.
