we love new york

We spent 10 years in the big apple. I moved there a single girl, fresh out of college.. bright lights, big city. I used to skip home from work through times square, pinching myself. I left New York with a family, a husband I adore, a son and a daughter.

One year ago we packed up our little apartment, dragged every last box down the stoop and into our moving truck. We drove down our beautiful tree lined street one last time and said goodbye to Brooklyn. JR commented how strange it was to see our place empty.. our place, where we kissed on the doorstep, where we made a home for the two of us, where we brought our tiny babies home from the hospital.

We miss it still.

So this week I'll be posting our favorite children's books about NYC. One a day. We've been buying them up for our little library, so the kids will remember the special place where they were born. I hope you enjoy them too.

What a wonderful idea! Right up my alley. Can't wait to see the titles and what a nice idea for your children.

I loveee this post...I'm from New York (ok, Long Island which I won't argue as being the city...cause it's not) and am living in Bowling Green/middle of nowhere Ohio for grad school...and even though gas is $1.70 here, I miss New York with all of my heart! Can't wait to see the books you post-- what kind of Master's of Reading Ed student would I be if I wasn't :)

As someone who is about to leave New York (in a month tomorrow), I will look forward to the books...

I went to college in New York from Alaska for the same reasons you describe. I miss it still. Happily, my little sis now lives there so I have reason to visit.

This post gave me a little lump in my throat, you know, when you have to swallow a couple of times not to start crying.. I'm so sentimental!

You've spent an era of your life in a city that shaped you and let you become who you are today. Now, you've entered a new era together with your family, and even though I can imagine that the pulse of New York City runs through your veins -your new home will be a wonderful platform for the next step in your lives.

Thank you for sharing!
