valentines 2010

To be honest, I used to loathe Valentine's day with it's overpriced roses and tacky pink and red color scheme. But now that I have little children, Valentine's day is fun again. C is in kindergarten this year and needed to bring 32 valentines to school, so we needed something relatively quick and easy. I always try to think of some way to involve the kids, either by including their drawings or having them help with the assembly.

For this years cards, I printed out plain red hearts with white circles for eyes. I made a sample for the kids showing them how to draw the face and arms and legs. Then the kids took black pens and made their own. Attach some candy to one or both of the hands and you're all set. Here is a template you can download.

I love these! So simple yet so cute and interactive for the kids too. Thanks for the inspiration. I too have loathed V-day in the past but kids have a lovely way of turning that around.

Eeek! These are too cute. I'm like you used to be (re: loathing Valentine's Day), but I'll file this away for when I have kids of my own. :)

ADORABLE! Love how they could get involved and in a nice simple (non-messy) way. Googly eyes would be fun too! xx

These are so sweet! I'm finding myself drawn more to Valentine's day in general as I see the sweet and simple ideas out there for homemade and unique Valentines. I'm a little sorry I didn't get on top of it this year, except to make a stitched love letter for my husband. At least I got that done. :)

so adorable . . . though I could cry.
We spent hours making our Valentines - then my son woke this morning with the stomach bug and had to miss the big party at school. A big ole bag of handmade dreamies will not make their destination . . . sniff sniff.

Agreed - Valentine's Day is only a good romantic holiday if you've happen to start dating w/in say, what, the last six weeks? If you've been together longer, the expectations are too high. If you're alone, it is the biggest bummer on the whole calendar. But as a parent - Bingo, great craft fun! Love the hands and my husband would love the choice of candy (me? Only chocolate will do. You can see already how Valentine's Day was always a compromise before childbirth ;)

A very cute idea. I love that it's a polished homeade card. And I really love that you find a way to include the kids.

What a lovely idea - I think it's great that you've come up with a design where your children could help with. Thanks for sharing x
